What is MY world 2030?
MY World is a global citizen survey to bring people’s voices into official debates about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Almost 10 million people from 194 countries voted in the first MY World survey to help define the global goals. After the goals were adopted, the MY World 2030 survey was launched to make sure every person can have their say on SDG achievement. From now until 2030, we want as many people in as many countries as possible to be involved in MY World. This is history in the making!
Why it matters?
Governments everywhere are working towards the SDGs, the ambitious global plan to address extreme poverty and preserve the planet by 2030. The survey helps decision makers at the local, national and regional level understand citizen perceptions and priorities about these issues and to engage in public discussions on progress. The results can be compared across all countries and demographic groups to be used by anyone to take action to hold governments and institutions accountable and to advocate for people’s voices on the key issues that affect us the most.
How it works?
MY World 2030 is shared by hundreds of global, national and local partners around the world who work with us to gather people’s voices, making great efforts to ensure that no one is left behind. The answers feed into a global open database to help the UN and governments to monitor perceptions of progress on the SDGs, raise awareness of important issues and give a ‘people’s perspective’ from the ground, in real-time.
Together with our partners, we want to mobilise millions of citizens, institutions and organisations across the globe to take part in MY World 2030. The goal is to empower people and ensure that everyone, even the most marginalized and disconnected groups, can have their say.
MY World aims to build:
- Awareness: increase ownership of the SDGs among citizens and all stakeholders, especially in the communities that are left behind.
- Accountability: empower citizens, especially those from the most disadvantaged communities to hold their governments to account.
- Action: analyze the results collected so far, generate citizens’ calls for action from their public representatives on the SDGs.
We commit to sharing the results with world leaders at key moments such as the UN General Assembly, High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and many more.
Who is behind the MY World 2030?
MY World 2030 is an initiative of the UN SDG Action Campaign, UNDP and the Overseas Development Institute with thousands of additional outreach partners from UN agencies and NGOs, to youth groups and private sector companies. The project continues on from the highly successful MY World 2015 project which gathered and channeled the voices of ten million people into the deliberations of what the Goals should be.
